Dasia Bowens earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development & Family Science from UL 老司机福利网 in 2019 and is currently working as a Registered Line Technician at an ABA Behavior clinic.
鈥淚 chose to study human development and family science because I have a strong desire in helping others,鈥 Dasia said. 鈥淚 believe my purpose in life is making a difference in someone鈥檚 life. Choosing this path gives me the opportunity to understand children, families, and the human development of life.鈥
Some of the classes Dasia found most impactful were parent education (CAFS 439), human development: early childhood (CAFS 339), and environments for young children (CAFS 437). In each of these classes, she was able to learn and observe the development of children. She also engaged in in-depth discussions with her peers and professors.
鈥淓very day of class was such a fun and interesting day,鈥 she said.
Outside the Classroom
Dasia was actively involved in the National Council of Family Relations (NCFR).
鈥淚n this organization, I was able to establish professional standards and learned how to promote family well-being,鈥 Dasia said. 鈥淚 was also able to work closely with people in my major and network in the community.鈥
She was also a member of the Black Women Leadership Association (BWLA), where she developed leadership skills and attended professional development meetings and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
Outside of organizations and her classes, Dasia enjoyed participating in events around campus.
鈥淢y favorite was Lagniappe Day that UL 老司机福利网 would have at the end of the spring semester,鈥 she said.
This sense of closeness and community was also Dasia鈥檚 favorite aspect of her major.
鈥淚 always felt comfortable talking to my professors and there was always an open space to discuss things,鈥 she said.
Although she is finished with school, Dasia's education is far from over.
"I am looking forward to learning more things along the way," she said. "I plan on growing and expanding my knowledge by being around other people in my profession that can teach me things."
